Gatlin

Up and coming artist, Galtin; a brief dive into her world on tour and music.

I had the privilege of not only meeting and taking photos, but interviewing Gatlin at her show last night at the Reverb Lounge in Omaha, Nebraska. Gatlin, a young, rising artist from Florida, has recently spent five years in Nashville writing music and is on her first tour currently with the band Okey Dokey. Her stage presence exudes so much confidence and love for what she does, and alongside her bandmates Sean Mchugh on guitar and Jonny Ochoa on drums, the band has a lot of fun performing. Her inspiration, she says, comes from Stevie Nicks and everything about her, “her voice, her melodies, her fashion!” Gatlin started releasing music in 2019, but says she has been “singing and making up songs since [she] could speak.” All of her songs have so much meaning, one of my favorites she performed being Grown. Gatlin also performed a new song last night, Masterclass, which is currently unreleased but she states it’s the favorite she has written. Every artist writes differently, Gatlin stating that Masterclass “is one of the first songs that came to [her] in a dream” and is excited to finalize and release it. Her usual writing process, though, “normally starts with poetry and then [the words are] put into a melody” to give her the authenticity and meaning she wants. Tour has been great for them so far, and this is the first time that Gatlin has ever been in the Midwest! Their portion of the tour began in Chicago, which she says was real fun and all the amazing people at the show made it “a great kickoff to tour!” Going forward, Gatlin is looking forward to “making an album” as “having an entire project like that has always been a goal of [hers].” With the show she put on last night, I’m sure that she will have no problem doing that and I hope to see her play again soon. With the tour wrapping up in Houston in about a month, Gatlin will be back to writing, recording, and releasing very soon.
