Kenzo Cregan interview from show at Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 15th, 2021.
Kenzo Cregan is an artist from L.A. who is currently opening for Weathers on their US tour. Cregan, born and raised in California, met his bandmates in L.A. and "because of how great they were, [Cregan] decided to take them on road." Cregan says he writes “about personal experiences” as well as “collaborates and co-writes as narratives” to give his songs meaning and personality. One of his songs, “Angeline,” Cregan wrote while homesick to give his hometown of L.A. a deeper meaning. Bassist Jake Minter noted that Cregan's Angeline is a “personified version of L.A. as a woman.” In the song, Cregan writes “can’t you see I’m crying for ya” and “pick me up and take me, save my lonely cold, cold heart” as almost a cry for help, showing his homesickness and loneliness. Although this song has the most personal connection to Cregan, the band says their favorite song to play and that Cregan has written is “Squeeze.” Hearing this song live, one can see the band's enjoyment playing it. To get this, Cregan said he combined his influence of Classic Rock with a “mix [of] new wave pop mixed with Alabama Shakes." With the tour coming to an end, Cregan and his bandmates reflected on their favorite moments thus far. “Going to the Chicago aquarium has to be one of my favorites” they all agreed on. Drummer, Will Splinter, is originally from Nebraska and enjoyed playing in front of so many friends and family. Along with that, he is a biologist so the band got to learn more about the aquarium than they ever thought they would while enjoying it with their favorite people. Speaking of favorite people, another favorite moment was at Frank’s restaurant in NYC. Frank’s is an Italian restaurant in which the band met up with some of their best and life-long friends as well as family. Minter says it was a nice touch of home all the way from New York. Cregan and the band are finishing up their tour back at home in California and hope to come back to Nebraska soon. Until then, you can listen to Cregan on Spotify here and check out the pictures from their concert at the Bourbon Theatre here.
